In addition, the standard gives employers the information they need to design and implement an effective protective program for employees potentially exposed to hazardous chemicals. Together these actions will result in a reduction of chemical source illnesses and injuries in American workplaces."
From October 2004 until September 2005, OSHA issued 130 citations to the airline industry and fines totaling $223,738. The average worker incidence rate was 10.1 per 100 full-time employees and the Airline Industry had 47 fatalities. According to the National Transportation Safety Board's Aviation Accident Statistics, in 2005, In U.S. General Aviation, there was an average of 6.83 accidents per 100,000 flight hours.
There are several areas in which pollution can be prevented. One of which is associated with airline maintenance. There are harmful pollutants which are released through wastewater through items such as:

2. Batteries
3. Scrap metal
4. Solvents
5. Aircraft fluids
6. Various cleaning materials
By changing the process or materials and finding better operating practices, the amount of pollution generated by the Air Transportation industry can be reduced. In the instances where pollution reduction is not enough, careful tracking of releases and transfers is essential.
